President Donald J. Trump succumbed to Turkey’s demand for a “safe zone” in North and East Syria, announcing overnight that the U.S. is pulling back forces that have served as a trip wire deterring Turkey’s invasion. The pullback reverses years of U.S. policy, ignoring advice from the Pentagon and State Department. Trump’s decision is strategically flawed, tactically incoherent -- and morally repugnant.

2015 Advocate, Sandra Creamer of Australia, visited ISHR to meet participants in the 2019 HRAP. She highlighted the benefits of the networking component of HRAP and urged the advocates to make the most of their time at Columbia. She is the Interim CEO of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Alliance, an adjunct professor at The University of Queensland and a board member of the International Indigenous Women's Forum.

2005 Advocate Alejandra Ancheita has been awarded an honorary PhD from the University of Paris Nanterre. In her acceptance speech, she said, “In a context like Mexico where violence has become part of the landscape, sometimes the most difficult thing is to defend joy and protect hope. However, we cannot settle, now or never, with this imposition. Fear cannot become the basic premise of our lives.” Alejandra is the founder and Executive Director of the Mexico City-based ProDESC (The Project of Economic, Cultural, and Social Rights).

AHDA 2018 Fellow Korab Krasniqi was involved in the publication and exhibition on the issue of missing persons from the war in Kosovo. The exhibition was installed at the premises of Kosovo Assembly and the memory book with stories of family members of the missing was published in three languages (English, Albanian, and Serbian).
