On July 18, 2019 in Mexico City, 2003 Advocate Lydia Alpizar of IM-Defensoras (left) and 2005 Advocate Alejandra Ancheita of ProDESC (right) presented a report on the situation facing women human rights defenders prepared for the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Mr. Michel Forst.

ISHR presents the participants in the 2019 Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP). HRAP is ISHR's flagship capacity building program. Since its inception in 1989, HRAP has build the capacity of 328 advocates from 90 countries through its intensive-semester-long program of graduate-level coursework, networking, skill-based workshops and faculty mentoring.

ISHR congratulates 2008 advocate Dr. Roger Luhiriri of the DRC on earning the Masters of Bioethics from UPenn in May 2019. Dr. Luhiriri is currently the ED of the Spine Africa Project. Previously, he was with Panzi Hospital in the DRC.

2010 Advocate Bakary Tandia has been named the National Director of Biram Dah Abeid's campaign for the presidency of Mauritania. Upon accepting the position, Tandia said: "I accept with great humility this responsibility... [I]t is about advancing... human rights laws and the rule of law for a new Mauritania where all his sons and all his daughters will be treated with respect and dignity." Tandia has worked with every HRAP cohort since 2011 on how to maximize the HRAP experience.

In early April, 2012 Advocate Kemal Pervanic spoke on “Grassroots Peace-Building in Bosnia Working with Youth and the Arts” at Columbia University in a dialogue sponsored by the Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP), and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University. Kemal’s talk served as the third feature for HRAP’s 30th Anniversary (1989-2019) Alumni Speaker Series.
