Two new articles co-authored by ISHR's Joanne Bauer

In September, ISHR's Business and Human Rights Program director Joanne Bauer and Liz Umlas, Senior Fellow of the Croatan Institute, published two articles looking at the human rights considerations of certified B Corporations and benefit corporations, a relatively new form of social enterprise.

2016 Advocate Organizes Dialogue to Protect Human Rights Defenders

2016 Advocate Mulshid Muwonge, Jr. organized a community dialogue in western Uganda to discuss issues affecting the security and safety of female human rights defenders in the region. The dialogue included law enforcement officers, probation officers, officers responsible for family and child protection, community development officers, religious leaders, and representatives from cultural institutions.

Beginning in 1937, many calendars began designating October 9th as "Columbus Day." However, over the past several years - especially since the adoption of the historic UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples 10 years ago - a growing number of places in the USA have done away with the “Columbus” part and renamed the day “Indigenous Peoples’ Day”. These include the states of Alaska, and Vermont and the cities of Seattle, Albuquerque, San Francisco, Denver, Bangor CityMaine and, most recently, Los Angeles and Cambridge.
