Columbia Human Rights Law Review Online: Call for Submission

COLUMBIA HUMAN RIGHTS LAW REVIEW ONLINE: CALL FOR SUBMISSION

On July 8, 2019, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the creation of a new commission to promote “unalienable rights” through U.S. foreign policy. This commission is already divisive. Amnesty International criticized its formation, suggesting it could be used to undermine rights for vulnerable individuals and encourage other countries to disregard basic human rights standards. The Columbia Human Rights Law Review has been maintaining the Trump Human Rights Tracker, and was cited in the New Yorker in an article about the new commission (https://t.co/kRr1gbM5Qt): “Columbia University’s Human Rights Law Review runs the ‘Trump Human Rights Tracker’. . . ‘It is difficult to keep up with all that the new administration is doing that threatens human rights,’ the Web site begins.”

The Columbia Human Rights Law Review calls for submissions responding to and analyzing the new commission to be published in our online platform, HRLR Online. To remain timely, publication would take place on an accelerated schedule. Submissions are welcome from practitioners, law professors, law students, and interested scholars in other disciplines. HRLR Online focuses on emerging issues and typically publishes pieces that are shorter in length, so submissions of any length are welcome.

To submit, please email a copy of your resume and piece to HRLR Online Submissions Editor Farah Mokhtar at fam2159@columbia.edu or to Columbia Human Rights Law Review Editor-in-Chief Will Wilder at wpw2108@columbia.edu.  Given that this is a rapidly emerging issue, we also welcome pitches and abstracts in lieu of complete pieces.  (Submissions could published as early as mid-september)

Guidelines on submissions to HRLR online can be found here:  http://hrlr.law.columbia.edu/submissions/.
