Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Institute for the Study of Human Rights and working closely with the Assistant Director of Education, the incumbent supports the functioning and development of the Institute and its programs and assists with the coordination of day-to-day operations with respect to ISHR’s Education Programs, with a focus on undergraduate education. The program coordinator will also provide general administrative support for the Institute and will contribute to the growth and development of ISHR’s other programs.

 
Responsibilities
  • Works directly with the Director and the Assistant Director to coordinate and support Institute-wide and educational programming initiatives and operational processes, including the planning, coordinating, advertising, and facilitating events and opportunities for students, alumni, faculty, and human rights practitioners, and the general public.
  • Serves as the primary contact for the undergraduate academic advising and degree tracking, answers routine questions from current and prospective students, and supports degree certification processes.
  • Coordinates the selection and distribution of funding opportunities for undergraduate students and assists the Assistant Director and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the selection of undergraduate academic prizes and departmental honors.
  • Supports admissions, course development and management, and registration.
  • Contributes to internal and external communications and outreach, pertaining to Education programming, including the writing of reports and online content and managing inquiries from students, faculty, alumni, and prospective students.
  • Coordinates faculty appointments and provides faculty support as needed.
  • Researches, compiles, and updates a program-specific alumni database with the goal of streamlining alumni outreach and engagement.
  • Assists in the supervision of work-studies, summer program assistants, and/or interns tasked with functions regarding the Education Program. The Program Coordinator(s) will also share primary responsibility for managing the ISHR summer program.
  • Collaborates with the Director and Deputy Director on ad-hoc projects while managing logistical support to Institute-wide programs and activities as needed. 
 
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in higher education administration, human rights, international affairs or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Particular expertise in project management, general budgetary planning and support, and experience working within a university context strongly preferred.

  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and inter-cultural skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent coordination, organizational, project-management and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Computer and internet literacy.
