Mr. Kennis will discuss his career working on human rights accountability and prevention efforts, and the provision of rehabilitation services to survivors of torture. Matthew has worked with Amnesty International USA and Human Rights Watch, and consulted for UN Women and Open Society Foundations. Mr. Kennis previously served as a senior researcher for a torture prevention program at American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan). Early in his career, Matthew worked in Guatemala with survivors and the human rights legal team mounting the Genocide case again Rios Montt. Mr. Kennis graduated from Columbia University with an M.A. degree in Human Rights Studies and was the recipient of a Harriman Institute Research Fellowship and the Kathryn Davis Fellowship for Peace.
