Elazar Barkan will be stepping down as Executive Director of the Institute on June 30th and on behalf of faculty, staff, students, and affiliates, ISHR would like to thank him for his many contributions. Professor Barkan joined the Institute in 2006 as Co-director and continued to lead as Director starting in 2008.

During summer 2020, three Columbia University students volunteered with organizations affiliated with the Alliance of Historical Dialogue and Accountability Fellowship (AHDA) alumni and one with an organization affiliated with the Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) alumni. These opportunities were created through the Summer Volunteer Program based at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights.

In 2011, the Student Volunteer Program was created to connect Columbia University students with volunteer opportunities at Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) alumni-led organizations around the globe.
