President Trump fired US Attorney Geoffrey Berman to obstruct investigations into his family, cronies, and Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdoğan who is named as a co-conspirator by the Southern District of New York (SDNY) for violating US sanctions on Iran and laundering stolen assets through a Turkish state-owned bank. Trump’s attack against Berman is further evidence that he places his personal interests above the public interest.

Tessa Silverman received her undergraduate degree from Columbia University in 2019, where she studied Human Rights with a specialization in Latin American Studies. During her time at Columbia, Tessa became passionate about the protection of human rights through justice reform. After interning with the Bronx Defenders and witnessing the racial and socioeconomic discrimination in the U.S. Family Court system, she completed a thesis project examining how international human rights norms might be deployed domestically to achieve a more equitable model for child welfare.

Saturday, June 20 is World Refugee Day, honored by the United Nations to raise awareness and educate the public about refugees, their basic rights, their situation around the world, and the responsibilities of states to grant them asylum.
