Organization Profile:
Mountain Spirit (MS) is a non-profit organization registered in 1996 under the laws of Nepal. It was initially formed by a group of like-minded people from different mountain communities. MS aims to improve livelihoods, protect environment and conserve mountain culture through capacity building, empowerment, awareness, and sustainable development initiatives with participation of local communities.
Moreover, it also advocates for social justice, human rights, and environmental conservation by supporting indigenous mountain communities. Being a member-based organization, the strength and spirit of this organization lie in its members. MS consists of more than one hundred members representing 14 mountain districts and some hilly districts of Nepal. Member holds diverse expertise in the issues related to environment conservation, indigenous peoples (IPs), women's rights, eco-tourism, gender sensitization, health, education, community-based planning, and entrepreneurship development.
Position Description:
As a summer intern you will be working to support the documentation related works of Mountain Spirit. Your supervisor will be Ms. Chhing Lamu Sherpa behalf of Mountain Spirit. However, you will be working closely with MS leader, board and advisors and frequent communication with Ms. Tenzin Choden Lama, MS staff and members accordingly.
Mountain Spirit had a great working experience with the University of Columbia regarding the various internship program collaboration. Your supervisor, Ms. Chhing Lamu Sherpa was one of Human Rights Advocate Program (HRAP) participants of Columbia University in 2016.
We are totally aware that due to the current pandemic your support will be virtual even though we wanted to have physical presence in Nepal. However, your task during the internship period will be as follows;
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in design of annual magazine ‘Mountain Trail’ 2023
2. Assist in MS website updating work
3. Review and proofread various reports as per requirement
4. Assist MS staff as per the official need
Duty Station:
As per the current situation we expect you to work from home. Some of the tasks may include participation in the virtual meeting and interactions.
