Mission:
We were born with the purpose of transforming Mexico by amplifying the voices of victims of human rights violations and proposing policies and practices so that people and communities can access justice and exercise their freedoms in conditions of equality and non-discrimination. We work for a fair and accessible society that dignifies diversity and respects the freedom of all people. We seek to honor the experiences of people and communities affected by injustice through advocacy and dialogue, legal action, research, training and artivism for social transformation.
We have three programs, Prison System and Social Reinsertion, Disability and Justice and Torture Prevention, and two technical advocacy offices: Legal and Comunication.
Responsibilities:
- Support for our legal advice channel: conversations with beneficiaries vía WhatsApp.
- Preparation of memos and other documents for the legal department.
- Legal research.
- Communication with other organizations and individuals on behalf of Documenta.
- Legal case revision and follow-ups.
- Participation in legal empowerment workshops and outreach with families of prisoners.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in working with criminalized communities and individuals.
- Experience in legal empowerment and workshops.
- Experience in human rights research.
- Candidates with a conversational level of Spanish will be given priority.
Preferred location:
Documenta has a hybrid work scheme. We work from home on Mondays and Fridays and are at the office from Tuesday to Thursday, from 9-5. Volunteers will be expected to comply with this work scheme.
Our address is in Los Alpes, Álvaro Obregón, Mexico City, closest metro station is Barranca del Muerto. Mexico City is an AirBnB friendly city and many places offer long term stay. We encourage people to use this app. Suggested neighborhoods are Condesa, Roma, Escandón, San Pedro de los Pinos and Nápoles.
Final product: SV will write a report on their work on legal empowerment, which will be shared on the organization’s website.
Application Instructions
Applications will be accepted between December 1 st and January 15th. Students should fill out this
Google Form where they should also upload their cover letter and resume. In your cover letter, please indicate the organizations that you are interested in working with, the relevance of this work to your studies and how your qualifications relate to the opportunities you are applying for. If you apply for more than one opportunity, please indicate in your cover letter your first and second choices and clearly explain why you are qualified for each opportunity. Applications will then be sent to the hosting organizations, which will request interviews with those students who they feel are the right match. The organizations will be asked to make their final decisions no later than March 1st. You will be asked to respond to their offer of placement within 5 business days so as to allow them to make another offer if you decide you are no longer interested.
