GRADUATE STUDENT INTERNSHIP

The US Human Rights Network is a national network of organizations and individuals working to build and strengthen a people-centered human rights movement in the United States, where leadership is centered on those most directly affected by human rights violations, and the full range of diversity within communities is respected and embraced.

Internship Overview

Internship at USHRN provides graduate level university students with an opportunity to actively work on membership engagement and advocacy projects on a wide variety of human rights issues, including immigrants’ rights, criminal justice, reproductive freedom, racial justice, and the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Student interns will be supervised and mentored by USHRN executive team. This internship is unpaid, with the opportunity to earn school credit. Summer interns should expect to work no more than 125 hours.

Roles and Responsibilities

● Assist with the coordination of Member Action Initiated Team, Working Groups, and Task Force groups.

● Independent research related to advocacy campaigns and organizing goals.

● Create and upkeep of membership database and membership lists.

● Assist with updating CRM database and membership files.

● Assist with preparing FIHRE trainings and membership conferences.

● Help draft end of the year reports and UN shadow reports. Desired Qualifications

● Strong oral communications skills.

● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

● Familiarity with Basecamp and CRM software.

● Experience and willingness to work with people from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and a broad range of ages, ideological positions, and religious views.

● Experience researching and drafting shadow reports or organizational reports.

● Enrolled in a relevant graduate or professional school program (Human Rights. Justice Studies, Social Work, Communications, Law, etc).
